AIPN Executive Committee member Dr Sophie Pointer, Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Research Centre for Injury Studies, has recently completed a report on behalf of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare on the incidence of hospitalisations due to sports injury.
Released November 2014, the report shows that injuries sustained while playing football make up the largest proportion of sports-related injuries requiring hospitalisation in Australia, whilst nearly a third of sports injury hospitalisations were associated with playing various codes of football.
