The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) represents a unique opportunity to transform Australian health and medical research and innovation. The Australasian Injury Prevention Network calls for the MRFF to invest in research focusing on prevention and care for the health conditions that contribute most to the burden of disease. Injury, as the leading cause of death and disability in children, young people and those of working age, is chronically under-funded and poorly represented in medical research. Our AIPN MRFF Priorities Submission to the MRFF recommends the establishment of a national injury prevention coordinating agency that monitors injury trends (via strengthening of the existing National Injury Surveillance Unit), and funds injury research that enables strong, consistent and coordinated links across States and Territories.
